Man Dies in West Texas Oilfield Accident.An oilfield worker died Saturday night following an Upton County oil rig accident, according to Upton County law enforcement officials. It it confirmed that an oil rig accident did occur, resulting in the fatality of a man, but the details are still sketchy.
Terrorists Kill 74 Oilfield Workers in Ethiopia
The Ethiopian Government says gunmen have attacked a Chinese-run oil field in Ethiopia, killing 74 people. The Ethiopian Prime Minister's spokesman, Berakat Simon, says nine Chinese nationals are among the dead.
Oilfield Worker Struck by Traveling Block
Oilfield worker dies when he was struck by a traveling block that fell 40 feet striking him in the pelvis. The worker and his co-workers had been on the oilrig floor tripping pipe. The worker operating the drawworks heard a loud noise "pop", and immediately engaged the hand brake and the electrical brake to keep the traveling block from falling down on to the rig floor. He yelled to the crew to clear the area. Two co-workers successfully moved out of danger. The victim was trying to get away, however, he was struck and crushed beneath the 12,000 pound traveling block and bled to death due to a severely crushed pelvis.
Oilfield Accident Kills Two in Zapata
A head-on collision between two large crane trucks resulted in the death of a Kingsville resident, along with another driver early Thursday morning (June 21, 2007) on Highway 16, 12 miles east of Zapata.
Daniel Lee Alvarez, 23, of Kingsville, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:12 a.m. The other driver in the collision, Adolfo Perez, 30, of Alto Bonito, was taken from the scene to the Zapata County Medical Group Clinic in Zapata, where he soon after died due to his extensive injuries.
East Texas Drilling Rig Collapse Injures Three
A drilling rig collapse in Upshur County, Texas resulted in serious injuries to three oilfield workers who were crew members on the workover rig.
